As we all know, during the summer of 2012 the Olympic Games will be held in our capital London. This year though, in light of its British origins, table tennis will be specially re-named officially at London 2012 as 'Wiff-Waff'. After fierce campaigning by the mayor of London, Boris Johnson, 'Wiff-Waff' will be making a return to our shores, though with a very different feel than it did when played with a bottle cork after high-society dinner parties in the 1880's.

Councillor Nigel North was on hand at Serpentine Green on Saturday 21 January to witness Hampton Table Tennis Club using their latest purchase to promote the sport to the public. Following the award of a £2,400 grant from the Community Leadership Fund, the club was able to purchase additional table tennis tables, one of which was at Serpentine Green. The club was there to promote their sport and encourage new members. The event included use of a 'robot' which 'fires' table tennis balls at players. Councillor North is shown with Robin Wilkin, Chairman of the club. Robin said, 'I started this club in September 2009 with our Club Coach Rod Hatton and a few interested Hampton residents. We now have over 100 registered members aged from 8 to 75, some who play in one of our four teams in local leagues. We play on Tuesday nights at Hampton College and Wednesday nights at the new Hampton Vale Community Centre, and although popular, we always welcome new players, young or old, beginners or experts.'

News from 9th May 2010
Since it started in September 2009 Hampton Table Tennis Club, which meets at Hampton College on Tuesday nights, has grown from strength to strength. At the AGM on 18th May the officers will be able to report that the club is now financially stable with 27 junior and 22 adult members and two teams in the local league.
It has been a difficult first season for the B team, narrowly escaping the bottom spot by a margin of eight points. Thankfully this gap was enough to separate them from Yaxley F who finished bottom of the league. At the other end of the table it couldn't have been better! The A team finished the season triumphant over Yaxley E by 7 points to clinch the top spot. The team will be hoping to replicate their good form next season in division one.
Robin Wilkin, chairman said "All in all a great first season for Hampton Table Tennis Club, with both teams bettering their local rivals in Yaxley who we expect to have great rivalry with as our neighbours for seasons to come. Thank you to both captains and the players for a fantastic inaugural season at the club, something we are hoping to carry on in the future. Whether you want to learn a new skill or improve on your present playing level, all are welcome at our club. There will be the opportunity to play singles and doubles table tennis at a competitive or social level. We have ten tables and top coaching for men, women and children from the club’s Head Coach Rod Hatton.
